The moment you have all been patiently waiting for has finally arrived. You now have access to the new school district grading and attendance system.  The program is called PowerSchool and is an entirely web based software and updates in realtime. This means you no longer need to wait for your teachers to upload their grades to the grading system. It all happens instantly.

Please login to your account and view your grades for Graphic Design 1. If you have an assignment marked "Late" then you should turn that project in right away. If you turn in a late project, or several projects, you need to send an email to glacierhighart at gmail.com. If there are errors in your attendance you can verify with your teacher but these changes  can only be updated through the attendance office.

Check your grades here:

Your weekly grade will be determined by what you have accomplished in class. Each week you will create a blog post on your Blogger page. You will write about the amazing things you have accomplished during the week and also share images of your progress to support tour writing.

Some say a picture is worth a thousand words. Show the world your accomplishments. Your blog entries will become a record of your progress in Graphic Design 1.

The rubric below will explain how your grade each week is determined. You have a lot of pull in this area. Put some time into reflecting on what you have accomplished this week.

Blogger Rubric is here for now until I can get the embedded rubric to work below.

The Graphic Design Process

As you approach projects in this class you will learn to use the graphic design process. This is an approach to solving a design problem with a specific plan of attack. Before you create excellent designs you will need to follow some steps in order to come up with the best solution. Great designs do not just appear without some research, thinking, notes, lists, thumbnails, sketching a rough, and then utilize the computer to execute your design.

South Park Portait

9/1/2011

On Thursday 8/31 the class used the South Park avatar creator website to make a self portrait. When the portraits were done we used a screen capture command to save the image (Shift-Cmd-4) By the end of the period we opened Adobe Illustrator and created a new "web" document in portrait format. Next we used File->Place and navigated to the screenshot to insert the image into the AI document.  This document was saved into a folder on your desktop with the title "Lastname.SP.ai"

Today, 9/1, we will open the saved .ai file and begin to learn some basics about AI.

These are some of the first things we will learn today:
  • Layers, locking layers, make layers visible/not visible, arranging layers
  • Shape tools, anchor points, closed paths
  • Selection Tool (V)
  • Direct Selection Tool (A)
  • Fill Color, Stroke Color (Swatches Panel)
