I hope you enjoyed making some halloween posters yesterday and had a safe and fun halloween.  Hopefully you can swing through the sugar lows and highs during the next few days without missing a beat.

We will begin working with Photoshop in the next few weeks in Graphic Design 1. Before you begin today you will turn in your DREAM logos to the server and also your halloween posters. Take a screen shot of your DREAM logos and also your halloween poster.  Post your images onto your blog page. Write a few sentences about each project.

Now, on to photoshop....
For many of you, photoshop might be familiar and others it might be your first time. .After using Adobe Illustrator you will find the two programs have some similarities, but fundamentally they are quite different.

Photoshop is used to create or edit raster images. Raster based images are comprised of pixels; essentially mosaics of tiny squares of different colors. If you zoom into an image as far as you possibly can in photoshop you can see the individual pixels. All digital photos are raster based images. They are on the web, your phones, iPods, digital cameras and more.

Open Photoshop and open a few photos. Work your way through the following websites to begin to learn some of the basics. As you read through these tutorials try them using your computer and Photoshop CS4.Tutorials:

Getting Started with Photoshop: some basics you should read about.
Making Selections : How to make selections.
More on Making Selections

Here are some pictures to work with:

Animals

Plants

Bikes

Create a new photoshop document that is 8.5x11 inches. Open several photos and try selecting different items, copy and paste them into your new document. Use a different method of making a selection for each item.  Create a scene with the images you select.

You will receive full credit (25pts)  for this assignment if you:
  • Demonstrate that you can select five different objects using the selection tools and paste them into your document.
  • Submit a .PSD file into the PS.selections.PSD.p# folder on the server.
  • Create a feathered selection.
  • Change the scale and rotate your selected objects
  • Name your file correctly: Lastname.ps.selections.PSD
  • Turn this project in on 11/2/11
