Early in the semester, day two, the Glacier Graphic Design 1 class collected their ideas as to what Graphic Design means and what graphic designers do. This was a pre-instuction exercise and each class was able to determine their own definition of graphic design. Collective minds came up with some fantastic ideas about graphic design.
Some definitions of graphic design:
“Graphic design is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. The designer works with a variety of communication tools in order to convey a message from a client to a particular audience. The main tools are image and typography.”
AIGA 2011- American Institute of Graphic Arts
“Graphic Design is the most ubiquitous of all the art forms since it can be found everywhere and anywhere- in our homes, in the restaurants we frequent, on the streets we walk, on the highways we drive, in the movies and theaters we attend, and in every shop we enter.”
“…graphic designers develop images to represent the ideas their clients want to communicate. This is usually accomplished by combining images (photographs, film, video, art or illustration) and words (typography) into a unified form that responds to the content and conveys a clear message.
